In the literatures, some authors advocated that free testosterone and free androgen index could detect the real male fertility function.
We are planning to collect 160 male patients with 40 to 79 years of age. To check testosterone, free testosterone, SHBG, and Albumin. Those data could be converted into free androgen index. The correlation will be analyzed.
Expected Results:
1.To set the standard values of free testosterone of the laboratory and develop relevant clinical items
2.To use free testosterone to take place of testosterone for early diagnosis of male hypogonadism
3.To set free androgen index for providing better clinical clues in male alopecia, hirsutism and female PCOS
It is not well established for clinical criteria of hypogonadism caused by hyposecretion of testosterone. Clinical symptoms only are not sufficient to make the definite diagnosis of hypogonadism. In clinical practice, serum testosterone is an common index for male fertility. But lower level of testosterone itself does not provides adequacy for diagnosis.
